FUN FACT: In 1987, President Ronald Reagan designated October 6th as "German-American Day" in celebration of the contributions made by German immigrants to the life and culture of the United States.
Our German Heritage
German-American Day, observed on October 6, honors and celebrates the enduring contributions of German immigrants to the culture and life of the United States. The Jasper Deutscher Verein, Sister Cities of Jasper, Inc., and the Jasper Partnership Commission has been honoring German-American Day since 1999. A large highlight of the celebration is The German Heritage Award, which honors individuals or groups who have generously shared their time, talents, and resources to preserve, strengthen, and celebrate German heritage in Dubois County.
The award is open to anyone making a meaningful contributions to our German heritage.
